Spilled Ink: The Lady 52 Mystery

So the last week of 52 is out.  This leaves the most important question left unanswered.  Who is DC’s mystery woman?

DC has been playing Where’s Waldo or Find the Observer with their comics.  In numerous issues, this woman has appeared in the background.  She has no name, no title (yet) and no hints.  She’s just there and she is easy to miss.

I’ve nicknamed her Lady 52

Here is what we know:

  • She wears a while hood and cap over a jacket.
  • She has red glowing eyes/aura.
  • She is always in the back ground and literally blends in with the crowd.
  • She has phasing abilities that allow her to blend into the wall.
  • She appeared in numerous comics in week 4 of the New 52
  • Showed up in the final Flashpoint comics

What we don’t know:

  • Her name
  • Her purpose
  • Her actual powerset
  • Anything important

Speculations:

[Warning these will range from good to weird to stupid.  You have been warned]

  • She is the scout for an alien race.
  • She is DC’s version of Fringe’s Observer
  • If the New 52 fails then this will all be a hallucination/delusion that this character dreamed up
  • She is part of N.O.W.H.E.R.E., or League of the Assassins
  • She is Cassandra Cain or Stephanie Brown.
  • She is a remnant of the old DCU trying to figure out what is going on

Known sightings:

  • Flash 1
  • Voodoo 1
  • Teen Titans 1
  • Green Lantern: New Guardians

  1. See, things like this are where comics succeed over every other medium. You could never do this in novels (I’m trying), movies or tv shows. Not across multiple titles / shows like this. This is DC embracing what makes comics epic.

    • Xanthor says:

I love when a comic uses their medium-exclusive abilities to their fullest. Like when Kevin Smith created the Onomatopoeia villain for DC. Funny as I am also tryingt o emulate something similar in my own writing (the Woman in white not Onomatopoeia lol)

  2. Great review! You actually overviewed some curious news here. I came across it by using Google and I’ve got to admit that I already subscribed to the RSS feed, will be following you on my iphone 🙂

  3. Jimi says:

Are you the only ones who saw her besides me – I mean when I search for “mystery woman in nu 52” there are no forum chats or blogs. She also appeared in Batman and Robin #1, The Savage Hawkman #1 and Stormwatch #1. I say she is a new kind of Monitor.
