In 2004 the first volume of the cult comic Scott Pilgrim was released. The comic, which made by a Canadian author, is about 23-year-old Canadian Scott Pilgrim, a slacker, hero, and part-time bassist who is living in Toronto and plays bass guitar in the band “Sex Bob-Omb.” He falls in love with American delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers, but must defeat her seven “evil exes” in order to date her. A live action film of the series, staring Michael Cera, is set to be released on July 20, 2010 and of course with the movie come a game tie in. This is common place for most major film but the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World tie in is taking a different approach.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, published by Ubisoft and rightfully developed by Ubisoft Montreal, is set to be a timed exclusive release on the Playstation Network in August 2010 with an Xbox Live Arcade release yet to be announced.
The game, with its art stylized after the comic itself, loosely follows the plot of the graphic novels. You, and up to three other friends, can play as slacker Scott Pilgrim, Ninja delivery girl Ramona Flowers, Scott’s Dummer-Ex Kim Pine and the neurotic Stephen Stills, who must battle through several levels in order to defeat Ramona’s seven evil ex-boyfriends.
Each character has their own exclusive movesets, which can be expanded upon by gaining enough experience, and are also able to use weapons and summon an assist character, such as a ninja. Defeating enemies earns coins which can be spent on health items or attribute boosts.
